Have you ever wanted to run in a 5K race but kept putting it off? How about wanting to start an exercise routine of walking but just needing a reason to get it kick-started? Well stop putting it off because the event has arrived! This year at the NCPHA Annual Education Conference the Environmental Health Section and NCHPA are presenting the PUBLIC HEALTH MATTERS 5K & URBAN HIKE!!! The event will be held on Tuesday, October 26th, 2010 at Riverfront Park in historic downtown Wilmington, NC as a kickoff for the conference. Certified 5K, USATF Certification: NC-10063-PH, begins at 6:30 p.m. in the cool of the evening where fast times are very favorable. Chip timing will be used. Walkers will set forth at 6:35 p.m. on an urban hike down Water street and will loop back along the beautiful Wilmington riverfront boardwalk (approx. one mile in length). Each participant will get a moisture wicking long sleeve tee-shirt and small hand towel with the conference logo and a goody bag. Then, come join us at Riverfront Park for food, drinks, awards, and door prizes. Event is open to everyone! Awards for the 5K will be given to the first, second, & third place male and female overall. Age group prizes will also be given to the top 3 male & female runners. First place male and female NCPHA members will receive their own award. Riverfront Park is just a few steps down from the Hilton where the conference is held.
