PRESS RELEASE
Tuesday's Gone, Lynyrd Skynyrd Tribute, headlined the show at the Downtown Sundown Concert Series last Friday, September 2. Half of the proceeds from wristband sales benefited the Cape Fear Literacy Council (CFLC). Wilmington Downtown, Inc. (WDI) recently presented a check for $500 to Linda Patton Lytvinenko, Executive Director of the CFLC.
"Cape Fear Literacy Council is grateful to WDI for the opportunity to raise funds and awareness of our services through the Downtown Sundown Concert Series. The funds raised at the event will buy workbooks and tutor manuals for our students and tutors," says Linda.
CFLC is an independent non-profit organization, chartered in 1985. The Council is opening doors and changing lives by providing adults with free and confidential instruction in reading, writing, spelling, math and speaking English. Serving over 450 adults in the 2011 program year, CFLC's efforts are made possible by hundreds of volunteer tutors and instructors. For more information, please visit www.cfliteracy.org.
WDI has donated over $8,000 to local charities and nonprofit organizations so far this summer. The last concert of the series, rescheduled after Hurricane Irene, will be held on Saturday, September 10 from 6:00pm - 10:00pm in Riverfront Park.
