This past Friday, the Downtown Sundown Concert Series raised $800 for WHET (Wilmington Harbor Enhancement Trust). The concert, featuring the Funky Monks, generated a lively crowd who sang and danced to The Red Hot Chili Peppers' classics. Wilmington Downtown, Inc. (WDI), the organization responsible for coordinating Downtown Sundown, has contributed a total of $2990 to local area charities and nonprofits.

The money they received from this concert will help fund WHET's Invasion of the Pirates event during Riverfest Weekend. WHET is an organization devoted to sustaining businesses along the Cape Fear River and promoting activities all around Wilmington.

In the future, WHET will try to obtain shower and pumpout facilities off the river in downtown Wilmington as well as request a possible museum on Eagle Island. Overall, WHET works hard to stand by their motto: shaping and implementing a vision for boating, beautification and balanced development along the Cape Fear River. For more information about WHET, you can visit their website at www.wilmington-docks.com.

Wristbands will be sold for $1.00 per person at Downtown Sundown for the remainder of the series. WDI will be splitting the proceeds with local charities and nonprofit organizations each week up to $1,000. Please visit www.wilmingtondowntown.com for a list of charities and corresponding dates.
