Wilmington, NC - On Friday, June 8, the Funky Monks performed at the Downtown Sundown Concert Series along with opening act Cary Benjamin. Through the charity wristband program, WDI raised $850 for the Child Advocacy and Parenting Place (CAPP). CAPP's mission is to be the preeminent community resource for preventing child abuse and neglect through nurturing, education, mentoring, advocacy and empowerment.

"We are thrilled! Every $20 raised provides a class and dinner scholarship for a child and parent working together in one of our Strengthening Families programs each week! One of those 'graduates' and her grandmother were volunteers for us at the event because they believe in paying it forward for the help they received," says CAPP CEO Liz Mandel.

Wristbands will be sold for $1.00 per person at the Downtown Sundown Concert Series for the remainder of the summer. WDI will split the proceeds with local charities and nonprofit organizations each week up to $1,000. Please visit www.wilmingtondowntown.com for a list of charities and corresponding dates.
