Downtown Sundown Will Help Fund WHET's Invasion of the Pirates

This Friday, June 17th, WDI will welcome the Funky Monks to the Downtown Sundown Concert Series for the first time! The Red Hot Chili Peppers tribute will go on at 8:00 p.m. in Riverfront Park, located in downtown Wilmington. Sai Collins will open at 6:00 p.m. Half of this week's wristband proceeds will be donated to the Wilmington Harbor Enhancement Trust (WHET).
The money raised will help fund WHET's Invasion of the Pirates event. Invasion of the Pirates is a family fun experience taking place each year during Riverfest weekend. Past events have included a dance ball, entertaining performances, and an exciting treasure hunt!
"We are greatly appreciative of this fund-raising opportunity with WDI because we are a small organization and we're grateful for any support," says Bob McKoy, Vice President of WHET.
WHET is a non-profit organization strongly committed to sustaining businesses along the Cape Fear River and promoting activities along the riverfront and around Wilmington. WHET's future projects include obtaining shower and pumpout facilities for boaters that come into downtown Wilmington and a possible maritime museum on Eagle Island.
