PRESS RELEASE
Wilmington Downtown, Inc. (WDI) recently presented a check for $300 to Cape Fear Birthday Smiles, nonprofit organization. Birthday Smiles is one of 15 charities who participated in WDI's wristband program through the Downtown Sundown Concert Series this summer. A grand total of $8,525 was raised for local charities and nonprofit organizations from May 27 through September 10. For more information on this program and other participating charities, visit www.downtownsundown.com.
Cape Fear Birthday Smiles is dedicated to helping make birthday celebrations a reality, not a luxury, for families in various circumstances across New Hanover County. The heart behind their parties is to allow the children to celebrate themselves on their special day, allowing them a moment to be the STAR and have some normalcy in their otherwise fluctuating lives. Birthday Smiles celebrated over 70 birthdays in the 2010 - 2011 school year and is looking forward to even more celebrations this year.
"We appreciated the opportunity to work with WDI at the Downtown Sundown Concert Series. The funds raised will be a great start to the new school year," says Jodie Sperry Martinez, Vice President of Cape Fear Birthday Smiles.
