Wilmington, NC - Wilmington Downtown, Inc. (WDI) encourages citizens to vote yes for the ballpark referendum. A downtown riverfront ballpark will be an economic catalyst, creating new jobs and new development. Cities across the country have seen the benefits of new ballparks. Billions of dollars in private investment have followed the construction of similar multi-use facilites in the past two decades.

"Speaking as a Wilmington native, this election is one of the biggest opportunities for our community since I-40 was completed. Professionally, this stadium is an urban infill economic development project. When completed as proposed, this multi-purpose facility will have a tremendous impact like it has on similar size communities and downtowns. A 'Vote Yes' is a vote for growth and for our community to step up into the big leagues," says John Hinnant, WDI President & CEO.

Voting takes place on Election Day, November 6. You can also vote early beginning on October 18. The property tax increase that will be used to finance the stadium is 2.5 cents per $100 in home value. For the average homeowner in Wilmington, that comes out to around $4 a month. "I am confident that the new multi-use stadium will be a positive investment for the city and the taxpayers," says Andrew Gray, Vice Chairman of WDI. "In addition to bringing people downtown for games, the facility will serve as a great location for a wide range of events, including concerts, and continue the development of Wilmington's vibrant downtown. Please join WDI in supporting this project by talking to your friends about the positive benefits, displaying a "Yes" sign in your yard or business window and by voting yes in the upcoming election."
