PRESS RELEASE
Wilmington Downtown, Inc. (WDI), a nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote the economic growth and development of downtown Wilmington, recently presented a check for $330 to the Cape Fear Chapter of the Surfrider Foundation. The funds were raised during the August 12th installment of the Downtown Sundown Concert Series. WDI has raised $7,500 for local organizations so far this summer.
The Cape Fear Surfrider chapter is currently working to help reduce marine plastics by educating people and government leaders, improve recycling efforts and create legislation that helps reduce items like single-use grocery bags and plastic water bottles. Additionally, they coordinate an educational program that places college students in local elementary and middle schools to educate tomorrow's leaders. The majority of the funds raised during this event will support these projects.
"The ability to work with WDI during the Downtown Sundown Concert Series allows our organization to reach a large population of people and educate them on the issues that impact our world's oceans, waves and beaches. We hope that we are able to inspire people to take action to preserve the precious coastal resources we have for future generations to enjoy," says Sean Ahlum, Chair of the Cape Fear Chapter and Secretary for the Board of Directors of the Surfrider Foundation.
WDI is currently working on projects such as business recruitment, job creation and increasing commercial occupancy in the Central Business District. To learn more about the organization, visit www.wilmingtondowntown.com.
