Rose Greenhow was a popular hostess in Washington at her aunt boarding house. Greenhow also was a key character in the Confederate's victory of the first Battle of Bull Run. Greenhow's death was a result of having $2000 worth of coins her purse when the boat she occupied was seized causing her to be pulled under water. She was buried with full military honors in Oakdale Cemetery here in Wilmington.
