A Pivot for Downtown and the Ambassadors

Posted Mar 23rd, 2020 in Feat of the Week

In response to the Coronavirus pandemic, Downtown Wilmington is adapting. Business owners are responding to recommended guidelines to help prevent the spread of the virus. The Municipal Service District (MSD) Ambassadors continue to provide services while taking additional precautions.

The Ambassadors are still working their scheduled hours to provide additional safety, security and hospitality assistance where needed. They are practicing social distancing when interacting with the public; however, the Ambassadors will not be entering any businesses until restrictions are lifted. During their daily walkabouts, the Ambassadors will keep the sidewalks clear of trash and will continue to monitor structures for stickers and graffiti.

The Ambassador team is available seven days a week from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday.  Hours on Fridays and Saturdays are 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sunday hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

They can be also be reached during operating hours by calling 910.524.3600 or by emailing ambassador@wilmingtondowntown.com.

Meanwhile, many shops are still open and others have ramped up their online presence to continue to serve customers. Some merchants are offering online specials and free local delivery. We have compiled this list as a guide and it will be updated frequently.

As dining and socializing is not permitted at restaurants and eateries, many are offering takeout, delivery or curbside pick-up service. This comprehensive list shows what adaptations downtown food establishments have made. Most downtown eateries are family owned and operated so we encourage you to support them. You can also order gift cards to use at a later date.

In order to provide designated areas for customers and restaurants to interact, the City of Wilmington has created curbside parking zones throughout downtown. Look for the green signs posted on meters along with green traffic cones near intersections for the curbside loading zones.

The Downtown Wilmington business community is grateful for your support.
