Benefit From Three Generations of Fashion Knowledge at Camillions

Posted Jun 26th, 2019 in Retail Roundup

When the fashion business is in your blood, you make it your mission to create a successful clothing store. Having grown up in and around her mom’s clothing shop, Lindsay Snyder was no stranger to fashion and retail. Her grandmother had also been in the business so it was a natural progression for Lindsay to study for a degree in fashion merchandise and later to manage her mom’s shop.

After graduating, Lindsay’s first job was as a buyer for QVC…in the home goods and small appliances department! Although not related to fashion, she believes this job positively influenced her business acumen, especially the ability to buy what the customer wants. She now applies this knowledge to Camillions, the clothing store she opened in Downtown Wilmington in 2015.

If you’re curious about the name of the store, it arose from a combination of the words, “chameleon” and “million.” The ever-changing nature of fashion and a woman's ability to adapt her wardrobe for every occasion is like a chameleon and the amount of money Lindsay’s nana used to jokingly say she would make in the fashion business is millions!

Like many small business owners, Lindsay loves the interactions with her customers and is thankful her store serves women of all ages and sizes. She even designed the displays so locals and visitors would feel comfortable like they were shopping at a friend’s house.

The community surrounding women-centric businesses is important to Lindsay and she actively seeks out brands that are women-owned or that have a meaningful platform. She believes customers want to know where their money is spent and love that this is a one-stop-shop for many unique brands.

You can also order merchandise through the Camillions online store that was a life-saver for Lindsay following Hurricane Florence in the fall. She tightened up her inventory and advertised through social media and customers remained loyal.

If you talk to Lindsay and read her blog, you get a better understanding of what inspires her. Even a quotation found in the store resonates with the small but mighty feeling you get when you visit Camillions: “Though she be but little, she be fierce!”
