This weekend is packed full of fun for all so gather your friends and family and enjoy the holly jolly holidays in Downtown Wilmington. Include a couple of these festive events on your weekend wish list and make memories that will last a lifetime.
Kick-off your weekend with the Holiday Open House at the Burgwin-Wright House Museum. Enjoy a free, sneak peek of the house decorated for Christmas with live greenery, fruits, and flowers. Donations welcome.
Friday, December 13, 4:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
Also on Friday, the holiday magic returns to the Wilmington Railroad Museum with the Christmas Train and Lights Spectacular. This event runs for three weekends giving people of all ages plenty of opportunities to visit and marvel at this miniature wonderland.
December 13, 14, 20, 21, 26 – 28, 6:30 p.m. – 8:00 p.m.
Start a new holiday tradition with a Spirit of the Holidays River Cruise by Wilmington Water Tours. Appreciate the spectacular vista of Downtown Wilmington from the Cape Fear River, listen to live music from a local musician and enjoy complimentary tasty treats during the hour-long cruise. The tour starts at the dock by the Visitors Center.
December 13, 14, 20, 21, 22, 27, 28 and 29, 5:30 p.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Adults looking for some laughter will enjoy the Pineapple Shaped Lamp’s Very Well Organized Holiday Special held at Ronald Sachs Violins on Castle Street. Wilmington’s favorite comedy troupe has a new batch of laugh-out-loud comedy sketches to make the holidays even jollier.
December 13, 14 at 8:00 p.m. and Dec. 15 at 3:00 p.m.
The 2019 WILMA Expo and Holiday Market is held on Saturday at the Wilmington Convention Center. This is a great place to browse multiple independent vendors in one place for holiday gift ideas. There will be food samples, live product demos, prizes and more.
Saturday, December 14, 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.
Be sure to take some time to take a stroll along the Riverwalk shortly after noon on Saturday to see Santa on the Cape Fear River. Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive by boat at 12:30 p.m. at the dock next to the Visitors Center at the foot of Market Street. Santa will stay awhile to greet people and hear what the children want for Christmas. His elves will be on-hand to give out candy canes.

After visiting with Santa, you can feed your mind with a Literary History Walking Tour of Downtown Wilmington. The tour begins at Old Books on Front Street and visits "The Two Libraries", explores the streets of your favorite novels, and goes where Oscar Wilde did when he lectured in the Port City.
Saturday, December 14, 1:30 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
For the next two weekends, children can hear the Polar Express read by local celebrities at the Wilmington Railroad Museum. The atmosphere is cozy yet festive and hot chocolate is available. There are two readings on each date but tickets sell fast, so call for reservations.
December 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 4:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m.
If the Burgwin-Wright open house inspired you, join the Christmas Stroll Through the Past, a festive evening filled with holiday décor, live music, period costume, refreshments, children’s activities and more. Guides take visitors from the colonial era at Burgwin-Wright House to an antebellum version of the holidays at the Bellamy Mansion. Along the way, you’ll stop to listen to Carol singers on the steps of St. James Episcopal Church.
