BROOKLYN CAFE & MARKET The film industry brings excitement to Downtown and especially to businesses that serve new customers or have their storefronts featured in a scene or two. A recent visit with Rodney Robbins’ niece, Brenda Rose, led to a discovery of a special community asset with a bit of a connection to the movies – Brenda hopes!
A film industry scout recently asked about renting the old newspaper box out front. It currently serves as a lending library for neighbors in the area. Brenda, relatives, and neighbors contribute books and the library operates on the honor system. Small businesses contribute in many ways to a community and this is a great example.
Another brush with Hollywood came when Rodney walked into the cafe and chatted with 2 teenagers later to find out they were the lead actors in Netflix’s “Outer Banks.” They bought t-shirts and were spotted on the Instagram of John B (Chase Stokes), with 4.4 million viewers!
Having recently celebrated its 3rd Anniversary in the Brooklyn Arts District, the shop has added many new items to its menu over the years. Biscotti, Beignets, and Portuguese Donuts are a sampling of the homemade goods you’ll find: some regular and vegan. Brooklyn Cafe also serves organic fair trade coffee, and mimosas. There is indoor and outdoor seating and plenty of free parking in the rear.
