In today’s busy world, it’s easy to overlook the importance of family and friendships. For Cem Atkas, owner of Black Sea Grill in Downtown Wilmington, family, friendships and good food are his top three priorities.
Black Sea Grill is a family-run business that is true to Cem and his wife’s Mediterranean roots. Cem is from Turkey; his wife, Kristin, is from Italy and in many European restaurants, your customers are commonly considered to be your extended family.
At Black Sea Grill, the family bonds are strong and friendships are quickly established. Because the Atkas’ take the time to get to know you on a personal level, they have a loyal following. Cem has seen relationships develop and grow among regular customers throughout the years.
For Cem, this is the key to the success of the business. He says, “When you come to Black Sea Grill, we want you to relax, spend time developing friendships and enjoy your food.”
You will love the food served at this ethnic restaurant because Cem takes great pride in what comes out of the kitchen. The food is fresh, the quality is high and the menu is consistent. In fact, other than exotic specials made from high-end seafood when available, the menu has changed very little in the 10 years since Black Sea Grill opened.
Non-negotiables are the kebabs which are marinated Mediterranean-style and the meat that is always chargrilled. Popular menu items include the lamb chops and the branzino (Mediterranean sea bass). There are also options for vegetarians and vegans like falafels. Gluten-sensitive diners can enjoy dishes like calamari prepared with gluten-free beer and cornmeal.
Everyone can enjoy Mediterranean-style dining almost year-round at Black Sea Grill. You can even book the whole restaurant, which seats up to 40 people, for private parties.
Hours: Tues – Sat, 11:30 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. for lunch and 5:00 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. for dinner.
The restaurant is closed in June so the owners can visit family.
