Enrich Your Life with Fourth Friday Gallery Night

Posted Apr 26th, 2019 in Weekend Wish List

If you want to start your weekend off right, the Fourth Friday Gallery Nights in Downtown Wilmington are worth checking out because you’ll find art to suit all tastes. This fun, monthly event is also family-friendly and free!

This weekend, a number of new art installations will open. During this self-guided tour, you are invited to join the receptions and mingle with the artists.

At the north end of town, Acme Art Studios will open the exhibit, “Birds Take Flight” which was featured in a Star News article this week. The Wilma W. Daniels Gallery at Cape Fear Community College is hosting its 2019 Student Art Show Reception and Awards Presentation which will showcase award-winning art.

In the center city, Port City Pottery & Fine Crafts is celebrating 12 years of success at the Cotton Exchange in Downtown Wilmington so stop by to congratulate them. You can also enjoy refreshments, listen to live music and see the latest artwork by John W. and Mary Ellen Golden at The Golden Gallery, just steps away. Stroll across the street to the MC Erny Gallery to see the new exhibit, “Paper Transformations” by JoAnn Alford. Be sure to stop in at ACES Gallery, also on Front Street, on your way down to Art in Bloom Gallery on Princess Street where the new exhibit, “Connections” will open this Friday.

Last week, “Changing Lines” an exhibit by James L. Williams opened at Downtown Wilmington’s newest gallery, Anchorlight Wilmington, which can be found at 1 South Front Street. James’ intuitive style fuses vibrant, layered acrylics and collage to recreate a cartography-like appearance of places and spaces he visits.

If you fancy testing out your skills as an artist, head down to River to Sea Gallery at 224 South Water Street for an evening with Cape Fear Paint and Wine. Space is limited so you would be wise to call and reserve your spot.

You can leave the car and take advantage of the free downtown trolley to visit the galleries on Castle Street and in the South Front District. The Artworks on Willard Street comprises several working art studios so you can meet the artists behind the scenes. The trolley runs every 40 minutes until 8:30 p.m.

These are just a few of the places involved in this week’s Fourth Friday Gallery Walk. Visit the Arts Council of Wilmington for a full list of participating venues.
