In the three years since Dawn Glover, owner of Decades of Décor, has been in business on Castle Street, she has seen huge growth in the area. No longer are there just a few shops and galleries; Castle Street is home to more than 50 businesses! And, people are taking notice.
With an eclectic mix of businesses to explore, people are choosing to spend time browsing shops like Decades of Décor. The small store frontage leads to thousands of square feet of retail space dedicated to mid-century modern merchandise.
Inspired by her father who worked for Drexel furniture in the 1960s, Dawn grew up loving the look and feel of the walnut and teak furniture popular in that era.
A recent trend that has sparked interest in memorabilia from the 50s and 60s is the popular television show, “Mad Men,” and Dawn’s store is unique for specializing in this era. Her multi-generational customers want original pieces with the most popular item right now being console stereos as vinyl records are back in style.
Many customers are regulars who furnish their homes entirely from her store. While talking, we overheard one customer exclaim, “You have so much fun stuff…this is everything we love!” With recommendations like that, you know Decades of Décor is worth a visit. Limited open hours allow Dawn to travel in search of inventory, but she will open by appointment.
