Located at the rear of the Hotel Ballast, adjacent to the Riverwalk with a fabulous view of the USS North Carolina Battleship, this restaurant is the perfect solution for casual diners, whether residents, visitors or business people. The southern-inspired dishes are created by the recently appointed executive chef, William Robey, whose experience includes a variety of Cajun fare.
The restaurant boasts locally-sourced meat and vegetables and food that is freshly prepared in-house. Lighter fare is accompanied by refreshing sides like fresh fruit and pickle fries! Shareable appetizers include southern fried green tomatoes. In true southern style, the plate comes with five portions to drive social interaction between diners who need to determine who gets to eat the fifth one!
Another cool conversation starter is the all-day “1968 Happy Hour” that includes a daily wine special or beer collection costing $19.68 and a shareable appetizer with a $12 price point. The number 1968 signifies the date the hotel opened and the $12 appetizers reflect the cost of a room when the hotel opened in 1968.
From the beautiful location on the Riverwalk with indoor and outdoor dining options to the friendly staff and the excellent food, dining at Board & Barrel A Coastal Kitchen is definitely something everyone should experience. Breakfast is also available.
