Fun For All The Family in Downtown Wilmington
Posted May 10th, 2019 in Weekend Wish List
Downtown Wilmington will be bustling with activity this weekend. Families are gathering for student graduations and many people are planning activities for Mother’s Day. With over 100 shops, around 90 eateries, 32 entertainment venues, 20-plus art galleries and five theaters, we have lots of options for family fun and celebrations.
Check out the Attractions tab on our website or pick up a copy of the Shopping, Dining and Entertainment Guide and you’ll see there are tours, markets, live music, breweries, and museums. You can rent a bike; ride the FREE trolley (see route map here); take a horse-and-carriage ride; learn to ride a Segway; ride the Port City Brew Bus or the East Coast Brew Boat; rent a boat to cruise the Cape Fear River; or even book a private charter. You can visit one or all of the historic properties—Bellamy Mansion, Latimer House, or the Burgwin-Wright House— or walk the Riverwalk to enjoy the beautiful weather. Reserve seats for a show or movie or test your detective skills at one of the Escape Rooms.
Parking is easy too—enjoy FREE parking for 90 minutes in the City or County parking decks located on North 2nd Street (only $1 per hour thereafter up to $8 daytime maximum), or park on-street for $1.50 per hour in metered spots. Private lots are also available. Check the signs for rates. Once parked, ride the FREE Downtown Trolley to visit the Castle Street Arts and Antiques District or the Brooklyn Arts District.
On Saturday morning between 8:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m., the Riverfront Farmer’s Market is held in the 100 block of Dock Street so you can browse locally-grown or made products and crafts at your leisure. On Sunday, the Historic Downtown Marketplace Artisan Market is held from 10:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on the 400 block of North Front Street.
Learn about Downtown’s history by taking a walking tour. And, if you are feeling adventurous, go on a river cruise in the morning or in the afternoon, reserve a spot on the Taste of Downtown Wilmington Tour to sample a selection of Carolina gourmet food from local restaurants. Movie buffs can join the Hollywood Location Walk one afternoon. Once the sun goes down, the Haunted Pub Crawl or the Ghost Walk of Old Wilmington are spine-chillingly good.
If you enjoy live music, check out all the events at local entertainment venues. We guarantee Downtown Wilmington has something for everyone all year round.
