Have Fun and Stay Safe Downtown

Posted Dec 23rd, 2019 in Feat of the Week

During the holiday season, there are many ways to enjoy the festivities: concerts, theater, live music and more, so your calendar is likely to be full of activities. Also, because Downtown Wilmington has around 100 places to eat and many places to socialize, you may find yourself out later than usual or overindulging in the holiday spirit.

Most eateries and entertainment venues are within easy walking distance of the many parking options; however, you may feel less confident walking back late at night. Thankfully, if you find yourself in this situation, you can call a Municipal Service District (MSD) Ambassador and request a safety escort.

The MSD was formed a couple of years ago to ensure Downtown is a safe and inviting place for everyone to enjoy. For your safety, the Ambassadors patrol the streets of the center city seven days a week providing additional sets of “eyes and ears” for local law enforcement. They work closely with the police department to keep downtown safe and wear bright orange shirts as a visible deterrent to crime.

For your protection, the Ambassadors also provide a safety escort service. If you feel the need to be escorted back to your vehicle or to a destination within the MSD, please call an Ambassador. They can be reached during operating hours by phone or text at 910.524.3600 or via email at ambassador@wilmingtondowntown.com.

The Ambassador team works seven days a week, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Hours on Fridays and Saturdays are 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.  Sunday hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
