When you’re hungry and you want good food fast, Port City Cheese Steak Company in Downtown Wilmington is the place to go. Located in the 200-block of Princess Street, it’s easy to access from anywhere in the center city. Yet, if you’d rather not leave the comfort of your couch, you can place an order through one of the many food delivery apps for delivery anywhere within a four-mile radius.
The owners, Chap Wallace and Sean Porter, keep the menu choices simple to follow their philosophy—focus on a few options and do them well. Traditional cheese steak subs and burgers are the mainstays of the menu and they are made with high quality, fresh steak. Consistency is the key and Chap says he prefers to take an extra step rather than take short cuts to ensure the food is the best it can be. Any of the cheese steak subs are available as wraps and there is even a vegetarian option.
For many people, a cheese steak wouldn’t be complete without a side of fries. Beyond regular and sweet potato fries (flavored with cinnamon and honey, no less), the loaded fries and cheese steak fries have garnered rave reviews on Yelp. And, if that’s not enough, you can round out your meal with a slice of cheesecake or a brownie.
Everyone who visits Port City Cheese Steak Company receives a friendly welcome and quick service. Chap has a long history of working in restaurants—from dish washer to general manager, he’s done it all and still believes the best part about the business is the interaction with people from all walks of life. He makes friends easily and has built a loyal customer base in his three years as a business owner.
Port City Cheese Steak Company flourished during Hurricane Florence as it was one of the few eateries to get power back quickly. Chap acted quickly to get fresh supplies delivered before major access roads closed and he was able to feed many of the rescue workers and residents who stayed behind. The business has continued to thrive since then.
Port City Cheese Steak Company is one of around 100 great places to eat in Downtown Wilmington. We encourage you to visit soon and come back often to shop, dine and play.
