It's the Time of Year to Shop, Dine and Entertain Downtown

Posted Dec 9th, 2019 in Feat of the Week

With parties to attend and shopping to be done, the holiday season is in full swing and we want you to know that help is available to navigate all your activities. Downtown Wilmington has everything you need to enjoy the festive season and a nifty, pocket-sized guide to help with planning.

For shopping, the center city has an eclectic mix of over 100 unique shops that are mostly independently owned and operated. These merchants go above and beyond to make your shopping experience pleasurable so you can check off your gift lists and still find time to have fun.

With around 100 places to eat and an abundance of shows and entertainment in downtown, you’ll have plenty of ways to experience the holidays. If you need help choosing where to shop or eat or want a better idea of where the attractions and entertainment venues are, ask an Ambassador for a free copy of downtown’s Shopping, Dining and Entertainment Guide.

The guide was funded by the Downtown Wilmington Municipal Service District (MSD) to help people find local businesses in the center city. On one side is a street map showing the area from the Cape Fear River west to 8th Street between the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge and the Isabel Holmes Bridge. On the other side is a list of everywhere you can shop, dine and be entertained with grid references to find the places on the map. The guide also includes attractions, event spaces and core services. It also shows available parking options.

The MSD Ambassadors carry and distribute copies of the guide and can be easily identified by their bright orange shirts with “Ambassador” printed on the back. Otherwise, you can swing by the Wilmington Downtown Inc. office at 221 N. Front Street during business hours to pick up a copy.

The Ambassador team is on-hand to help anyone who needs assistance seven days a week, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursday.  Friday and Saturday hours are 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. and Sunday hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

They can be reached during operating hours by phone or text at 910.524.3600 or via email at
