Walking into Steam Restaurant and Bar on the second floor of Embassy Suites by Hilton in Downtown Wilmington can feel like a breath of fresh air. The classy yet casual décor with a gray and taupe palette gives the restaurant a modern feel. The windows around two sides of the building provide excellent views of the river and the layout is spacious yet intimate enough to enjoy a special meal for date night.
At Steam, you can enjoy a fine selection of American cuisine for lunch or dinner and the food is expertly prepared by executive chef, Tyler Powell. Tyler creates fun entrées like the “Steamy Noods” pasta dish. His crab and corn chowder has a fan following and other popular dishes include Kalbi-style, braised short ribs, cast iron diver scallops and oysters Wilmington.
Many of the ingredients are sourced locally. Although the hotel is a part of a national chain, the menus are set in-house, so locals and visitors alike will always find something new and tasty to try.
Steam has also found a loyal following with the local theater crowd. With the restaurant being so close to the Wilson Center, Food and Beverage Director, Alan Nelson, discovered theater-goers wanted to dine a little earlier so they could enjoy a meal before going to a show. To satisfy that need, he came up with a fixed-price ($60 a couple), three-course meal that includes a choice of starters and entrées and a dessert to share. This special theater menu is available between 5:00 p.m. and 6:30 p.m., leaving plenty of time to make it to the show.
At other times, customers can enjoy daily specials like half-price wine on Sundays or 8oz pours at the bar for $3 on Tuesdays. Alan believes dining out with friends and family is a great way to socialize and he wants you to enjoy your experience at Steam.
Hours: Mon - Sun, 11:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. for lunch and 5:00 p.m. – 11:00 p.m. for dinner. The bar is open daily from 11:00 a.m. until.
