James Slay has recently assumed the role of the Municipal Service District’s (MSD) Operations Manager and leads the team of Ambassadors who work to keep Downtown Wilmington a wonderful place to enjoy whether a resident, employee, visitor, college student, or four-legged creature! As Wilmington continues to grow and develop, the ambassadors have taken on more tasks aimed to make Downtown safe and clean while also maintaining our unique charm and hospitality.
James brings a great deal of experience from living and working in the hospitality field in southern California. “I believe in the philosophy of enlightened hospitality and love the opportunities it gives me to engage in positive change,” says James. “I look forward to building relationships with all of the Downtown stakeholders and helping to keep our downtown thriving.”
After years of vacationing in Wilmington with his wife, James says he fell in love with the city and was ready to make the move to the east coast. His wife currently teaches at the Friends School of Wilmington.
“James and his team are making a huge difference in Downtown,” says Dane Scalise, Chair of WDI. Mr. Scalise added: “From the first conversation I had with James, I knew that he truly cared about the work that we do. And every day since then, James has showed me that he will do whatever it takes. James is an awesome addition to Team Downtown.”
The Ambassador team works seven days a week, from 7am to 10pm from Mondays through Thursday. Hours on Fridays and Saturday are 7am to 11pm. Sunday hours are 9am to 5:30pm. James and his crew can be reached by email at or by phone (910) 524-3600.
