This week, TripAdvisor reviewed the most charming downtowns in the United States. Downtown Wilmington was named as one of six locations most frequently mentioned by TripAdvisor travelers and was given an average traveler rating of 4.5/5.
One of the reviewers said, “Charming downtown walking city. Boardwalk along the beautiful Cape Fear River. Wonderful restaurants all along city. Many restored, historical homes and churches. About 7 new craft breweries in town and very close to all the beaches.”
In Downtown Wilmington, we aim to please. The Municipal Service District provides a range of services to improve the safety, cleanliness and vitality of our center city through the Ambassador Program. The Ambassadors patrol the streets daily and interact with downtown visitors and business owners. They give information and directions, share umbrellas, offer a safety escort service, provide recommendations and hand out Shopping, Dining and Entertainment guides. They also report street light outages, monitor the sidewalks and buildings for cleanliness and follow up with graffiti and sticker removal, trash pick-up and pressure washing.
In addition to all these regular services, the Ambassadors are responsible for the care and watering of all the beautiful, flower baskets you can see hanging on utility poles on North Front Street, North 4th Street and parts of 2nd Street.
All of these actions help make Downtown Wilmington a charming place for locals to live, work and enjoy and for everyone to shop, dine and play. Obviously, visitors know it too!
The Ambassador team is on-hand to help anyone who needs assistance seven days a week, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Mondays through Thursday. Hours on Fridays and Saturday are 7:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. Sunday hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
