Riverfest will Rock Downtown this Weekend

Posted Oct 4th, 2019 in Weekend Wish List

Over the next couple of days, the weather is going to be beautiful so you can enjoy all that Downtown Wilmington has to offer. Riverfest 40 will have the center city buzzing with activity and the cooler seasonal temperatures will be perfect for strolling among the vendors, browsing the local shops and enjoying the entertainment.

If you loved the summer Downtown Concert Series, you’ll be excited to see the line-up of free concerts for this year’s Riverfest. We’ve brought back your favorite headline acts and have some awesome local bands to get you fired up for a weekend of fun. We even have two stages so the live music will continue to flow.

Kicking off the entertainment tonight will be local band Striking Copper, a harmony-driven, roots-rock band led by redheaded, twin sisters. The band uses haunting vocal arrangements accompanied by full volume instruments to deliver a lasting, melodic sound. Tonight’s headliner, 20 Ride, is America’s #1 Zac Brown tribute band that has something for everyone. From traditional country to Caribbean rhythm, to sultry soul and body moving funk; 20 RIDE brings all the best Zac has to offer.

The fun and entertainment of Riverfest continue throughout the weekend with craft vendors, concession booths, a fun zone for children, a BMX bike display and a vintage car show. Miss Riverfest will appear throughout the day and the free, live music will entertain the crowds throughout the afternoon and evening on the concert stage at the Ligon-Flynn lot at Market and 2nd Streets.

All the concerts are free. You can buy soft drinks and Riverfest paraphernalia at the concession stand. Purchase a $1 wristband if you want to enjoy beer or wine at the concert venue. Please note that outside beverages, coolers and dogs are prohibited.

Saturday’s concert line-up will delight audiences with a range of music sure to please everyone. A local favorite, L-Shaped Lot kicks off at noon with a mix of Americana, folk-rock and bluegrass music. These musicians are renowned for their four-part harmonies, and lively stage show. Next up, Josh Solomon and Eric McGuiness will keep things moving with a great mix of easy-listening music.

At 3:00 p.m., the Kolby Oakley Band will perform a lively set of original music and country covers. Kolby is based in Nashville and he will bring a high ornery set to the stage. Starkey will follow at 4:30 p.m. and popular local band, Massive Grass will set up the evening with a unique blend of foot-tapping bluegrass with a rock twist that has been delighting fans of all genres since 2007.

At 7:30 p.m., there will be a short break from the music so people can enjoy the fireworks display that will light up the sky over the Cape Fear River.

After the fireworks, the headline band for Saturday night is Tuesday’s Gone, a Lynyrd Skynyrd tribute band. Back by popular demand, these talented musicians will energize the audience with a rousing set of songs from one of the greatest rock bands of all time.

While people will be excited by the Riverfest activities throughout the weekend, Downtown Wilmington has over 250 shops, restaurants, pubs and attractions for everyone to enjoy. Whether you want to attend the festival or visit your favorite store, Downtown has plenty of opportunities for residents and visitors to be a part of the action and join the fun.
