At Mon Âme Chocolate and Wine Bar, located in a former bakery built in 1842 on South 2nd Street in Downtown Wilmington, you can enjoy the decadence of a hand-selected wine paired with delicious chocolates. And, if you want to fine-tune your palate, staff will recommend pairings.
Inspired by his customers, owner, Andrew Bopes, strives to learn something new every day so he can share that knowledge with them. He says, “Wine tasting is subjective—what you like is not wrong.”
Andrew was attracted to Wilmington 11 years ago by the growth and changing vibe in the Downtown area. He noticed a raised level of thought behind the service industry and wanted to be a part of the revitalization effort. Having studied with master sommeliers and learned confectionary skills from a local pastry chef, Andrew felt drawn to the Yin and Yang pairing of wine and chocolate.
Customers are drawn to his monthly, Friday-night, wine and chocolate events and specials like 15 wines under $15 or $4 Mimosas at the weekend. With a 15 percent discount applied to bottles to-go, his wines are competitively priced.
No sales pitch is required for his hand-made chocolates—they are divine! Andrew uses the Tcho brand of chocolate which contains 66 percent cacao for just the right amount of sweetness and he creates a selection of unique flavors to suit all tastes.
At Mon Âme Chocolate and Wine Bar (also known as MAC Wine Bar), you can choose to relax in the intimate setting of the indoor lounge bar or unwind al-fresco in the Mediterranean-style courtyard. Either way, this hybrid environment is custom-designed for your enjoyment.
Andrew now has a new production facility so he can cater weddings, produce party favors, and make gifts for corporate events. Demand is high, so plan ahead for special orders or flavors.
