People visit art galleries for many reasons: to broaden their minds; enrich their lives with culture or find a personal connection with a piece of artwork. Some people just like to browse and see what catches their eye. Whatever the reason, art is a representation of human creativity that we appreciate for its beauty or emotional power.
In the River to Sea Gallery and Wine Shop in Downtown Wilmington, creativity and beauty are represented in many different forms. The gallery displays and sells artwork from 60 different local artists. The walls are adorned with paintings, prints and photos. Sculptures, jewelry, pottery, glasswork, candles and soap are displayed throughout the gallery. South of the Orange Street Landing, with access from both Water Street and the Riverwalk, the River to Sea Gallery has a fabulous view across the Cape Fear River.
A deck extends from the gallery to the Riverwalk and patio tables and chairs mean you can sit and enjoy the vista…or play some corn hole. Because the River to Sea Gallery also sells wine and beer, you can socialize with friends on the deck and enjoy an adult beverage after shopping.
The owners, Rebecca Duffy Bush and Tim Bush, are both artists. They specialize in paint, print and steel. Rebecca loves to create octopus and mermaid pieces; whereas, Tim incorporates game fish into his artwork and also enjoys photography. This year, they are celebrating ten years in their permanent location downtown. The first five years were in Chandler’s Wharf and then they moved to the current location for more space.
The extra space gave them more flexibility so they were able to offer Paint and Wine classes, host parties and showcase their work seven days a week. They can accommodate up to 15 people in each class and two adult beverages are included in the price. On Sunday mornings, they also offer a kids’ yoga class on the deck.
River to Sea Gallery is a part of the Fourth Friday Gallery Night and is a popular place for locals and tourists to visit while strolling along the Riverwalk. Although nearby parking is limited, the FREE Downtown Trolley stops at Elijah’s at the foot of Ann Street.
Shop, sip and socialize at River to Sea Gallery to appreciate the beauty and emotional power of art.
