Four years ago, with a love of cooking and distaste for bland food, Gary Coleman, owner of Cape Fear Spice Merchants, saw a gap in the market for fresh, exotic spices.
Meanwhile, his wife, a tea lover, wanted to introduce people to different teas. This resulted in the couple opening a store featuring hand-blended, raw spices and 205 different loose teas. The shop also carries items to serve and prepare foods and beverages.
People who know their spices understand that a spice must be fresh and natural to be good. Cape Fear Spice Merchants does not use preservatives and carefully monitors and stores all of their spices to ensure the utmost in freshness. Many spices are in-store blends.
Similarly, sophisticated tea lovers know that you have to explore beyond generic tea bags to really appreciate good tea. Here, the staff let you smell any tea of interest and will explain the origin and nature of the tea plant. Who knew you could get purple tea leaves from Kenya?
Knowledgeable staff and unique products are what make Cape Fear Spice Merchants a go-to place in Downtown Wilmington. If you haven’t been there yet, stop by for some Cape Fear Steak Rub—one of their most popular products. Once tried, you’ll be back for more!
