Formerly an old fishing wharf, The George on the Riverwalk in Downtown Wilmington is a restaurant worth visiting. Built in 2004 by a former architect, it underwent a major refurbishment in 2013 to become the upscale casual, southern-coastal restaurant it is today.
Located toward the southern end of The Riverwalk, The George is in the perfect location to sit and dine riverside while watching beautiful sunsets.
The large, outdoor deck can seat up to 150 people and there is room indoors for 70 more meaning this is a popular venue for weddings, wedding rehearsals and graduation parties. With consistency and quality at its core, you can see why casual visitors quickly become regulars.
You will find consistency and quality in the menu choices too. People come back repeatedly for the popcorn shrimp and grits—a menu staple since the restaurant opened—and the Applewood-smoked, bacon-encrusted scallops. Portion sizes reflect the growing trend for quality over quantity…leaving room for dessert! Fish and chips is also a popular lunch choice for locals and visitors alike.
The General Manager, Matt Babson, wants everyone to feel at home so his staff strives to make the restaurant a warm and inviting space which exudes an air of class. With a top-notch management team and cohesive staff, The George offers a friendly environment so people will enjoy themselves and tell all their friends.
So, next time you’re looking for a place to eat, drink and socialize, make sure you stop by The George. It has a fully-stocked bar which includes a number of local craft beers not found elsewhere Downtown. And, don’t forget to check out those popular menu items; you’ll be glad you did.
